Diwali is the festival of lights. It is the festival which is most famous and most important festival of the people of Hindu culture. The diwali festival also marks the victory of lord Rama over Ravan. It also indicates the coming of lord Rama after an exile of 14 years. India is also known as land of festivals. Diwali is the biggest festival in India. Diwali is the festival of joy and happiness among all the family members. It is the festival of love with each other from the family. It shows the light over darkness.

People of all age celebrate this festival. Small children and youngsters celebrate by bursting firecrackers. Old age people light diyas and sit around it watching their children happy bursting firecrackers. It is held in October to November in winter season. People give each other sweets and gifts. During the days of diwali there is a lot of crowd at shopping malls, clothing shops, footwear shops, jewellery, etc. People buy new clothes and sandals and wear it at the day of diwali.

During diwali there is a lot of traffic on roads. It is because people go out for shopping and to wander with their family members. At diwali people prepare delicious sweets snacks for next day of New Year as people visits each other’s home. People get together, play, burst crackers, and enjoy time together. People also make beautiful rangolis. They draw beautifully and fill the bright colours in the rangoli. The rangoli attracts my eyes that I do not feel to take away my eyes.

In North India, Hindu people celebrate this festival to honour Ramachandra, who was the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is said that on the day of Diwali Lord Rama, his wife and his brother Lankshman returned to his kingdom [Ayodhya] after 14 years. They went from their kingdom because lord Rama’s father told to go from the kingdom. Lord Ram was very truthful and believes that it is fair if our life goes but we should complete our promise in any case. He had promise his father that he will go. So, as to complete his promise he, his wife and his brother went.

For Sikhs, Diwali is important festival as it celebrates the release of their 6 thGuru, Hargobind and the other 52 princes which were there with him in 1619. Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists. It comes in the Hindu month of Karthika Masam which comes in October or November. Diwali is also known as Deepavali. Diwali is celebrated totally for five days in India.

On the next day of diwali is New Year. People clean their house before some days of diwali. People go to each other’s house and gives sweets, items and gifts. People begin the New Year with the prayer of peace, money, health and wealth.
